Studio Practice & Research
Dual Practice
Natalia Koromvokis operates within a Dual Practice, combining long-duration layered painting with sustained single-session painting. These approaches represent two complementary ways of engaging with time and emotion: the layered approach allows for structural accumulation over months, while the single-session approach demands concentrated presence within a continuous breath.
The Blue Response Method (Ongoing)
Initiated in December 2025, Blue Response is the artist’s current line of research. Each work is the result of an extensive preparatory cycle, including AI-assisted conceptualization and meticulous pre-visualization. This preliminary phase, often spanning a month, allows the artist to calibrate the composition and chromatic strategy before the first stroke is made.
The final image is resolved within a single, uninterrupted session lasting up to twenty hours. This rigorous structure is a technological necessity to preserve structural unity; the work is realized through a state of sustained analytical presence, where every decision is executed while the paint film remains active.
The method is based on Extended Alla Prima and Medium-Free Oil Manipulation. No oil mediums or final varnishes are used. Form emerges through atmospheric dissolution and the tension of warm-cool color stresses, verified under a rigorous Light Control Protocol. This forensic attention to the surface ensures a technically absolute "Author’s Finish" that remains stable without the need for synthetic coatings.
Surface Integrity & Light Control Protocol
To ensure the permanence of the medium-free surface, each work is executed under a rigorous Light Control Protocol. During the 20-hour session, the paint film is continuously scanned under high-intensity raking light to verify structural density and purity. This forensic attention to the surface ensures a technically absolute "Author’s Finish" that remains stable and vibrant without the need for synthetic coatings.
The InterFaded Series (2024-2025, Closed)
A closed cycle of long-duration, The InterFaded Series (2024-2025, Closed) layered works exploring accumulated emotional states and interior tension. Through thin oil glazes, Koromvokis builds depth where figure and space merge into a singular silence. The InterFaded series has received international recognition, including the Manifest Art Prize semi-final (Cincinnati) and inclusion in the Keller Prize catalogue, forming the artist’s established authorial foundation.
