Studio Practice & Research

The Blue Response Method (Ongoing)

The work belongs to an ongoing series initiated in 2025, marking a pivotal shift in my practice toward exploring the boundaries of light-driven portraiture. In this series, the portrait transcends literal representation to become an exploration of light as a weightless state of being. By utilizing digital light research based on original photographic studies to push contrast and chromatic saturation to their limits, I define a precise "light strategy." This allows the concept to be refined to its limit before I begin work with paint, ensuring total control over the emotional depth and complexity of the final image.

Technique & Materiality

The execution is based on Extended Alla Prima and Medium-Free Oil Manipulation. I intentionally omit oil mediums and final varnishes to preserve the raw, textural integrity of the pigment. Form emerges through atmospheric dissolution and the tension of warm-cool colour stresses. Works are presented on a 4cm deep profile with hand-painted edges, extending the light-field into the physical environment and transforming the painting into a three-dimensional object.

Surface Integrity & Light Control Protocol
To ensure the permanence of the medium-free surface, each work is executed under a rigorous Light Control Protocol. During long session, the paint film is continuously scanned under high-intensity raking light to verify structural density and purity. This forensic attention to the surface ensures a technically absolute "Author’s Finish" that remains stable and vibrant without the need for synthetic coatings.

The InterFaded Series (2024-2025, Closed)

A closed cycle of long-duration, The InterFaded Series (2024-2025, Closed) layered works exploring accumulated emotional states and interior tension. Through thin oil glazes, Koromvokis builds depth where figure and space merge into a singular silence. The InterFaded series has received international recognition, including the Manifest Art Prize semi-final (Cincinnati) and inclusion in the Keller Prize catalogue, forming the artist’s established authorial foundation.
